What's in a name?

Centrepoint Wealth Management is a name that represents three key issues for us, and for our clients.

Centrepoint is a true tennis term, meaning, the mid-point between two possible shots. In a strong way, that is what we offer and highlight in designing your investment portfolio.

You see, the term standard deviation is the range of returns, around an average, or targeted rate of return. In this regard, the term Centrepoint is consistent with our emphasis on desiging strategies to reduce our client's standard deviation on their investment portfolio.

Centrepoint is also part of a meditation process that has benefited many people, including myself, as founder and president of this firm.

Centerpointe Research, a meditation research firm, has been key to my life over the past 4 - 5 years and we wanted to pay homage to their firm. Visit www.centerpointe.com for more information. Their teachings, and technology will greatly assist those who chose to participate.

And finally, Centrepoint is a true definition of how we think of our clients.  You as clients, are the Centrepoint to all we do, everyday, with every interaction, with every recommendation that is made.

You are the Centrepoint for our existence.

 A Story to Guide Us

There's an old adage that a son will listen to his father's music and read the books his father read.

It is meaningful.

My late father, John Westfall, was a gifted jazz trombone player, who also taught youngsters his craft.

He passed away unexpectantly in 1995, but we have his recordings and some concert video to remember him by.

This recording of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" was recorded in 1993 at an "Arts in the Park" evening in Manhattan, KS. My father played and taught for decades in the Dallas area before making his home in Kansas.

So, I now listen to his music, and the music he loved from his days of playing jazz -- Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, and Billy Holliday to name a few.

Because the music is so much a part of me, I wanted to share it with you. Enjoy the music and listen for my father's trombone solo toward the end of the song.

Standard deviation is a gauge used to measure risk, or volatility. It is a number indicating the variability of a set of numerical values about their arithmetic average. The lower the manager's standard deviation, the more stable the portfolio's performance. High standard deviation suggests a portfolio with more fluctuation and volatility.
